maybe not the next day

He could have died the day after he won if he had the Cardiac check last week.

What if?

What if the superbly bred dog with great type and gait won Westminster but then died the next day of an inherited Cardiac problem? What would have been proven?

Breeding

First a dog needs to be conditioned properly, and a good diet helps in that dept and for over all health.. But the bottom line is quality breeding, carrying the right genetics, that will make the difference. Can't get a good dog from substandard stock. You need type, you need a dog of good structure, balanced at both ends, one of moderate length, that is the dog that tends to move well . Covering ground with good reach & drive.
All the diet, health testing in the world won't get you a dog of quality,That comes from surpurb breeeding stock. Quality begats Quality. Finally you'd need a judge who would "consider" putting a dane in the top spot once you have the dog. Something tells me that may be the hardest of all to acheive..

I like the one who thinks feeding the BARF is going to make their Great Dane like the German Shorthaired Pointer.

superb breeding

I'm surprised that the results of this poll aren't all over the map like so many others. It is obvious to me that we all do not have the same opinion on "what is breed type" and "what is proper gait".

Superb breeding

I feel movement comes with conformation, from what I can see in the ring (danes) not enough breeders breed for movement and think it's not important enough, this year Wesminster gave us a good view of what a Dane should be(type with movement) it was a real treat to see. I hope breeders around the country will take Emmie for exemple!!

Superb Breeding

Yes, but that's the point. Health testing doesn't include Superb Breeding.

Superb breeding

Personally I think "superb breeding" includes health testing.
